Automotive - Harness can run from dash board controls to engine
Aviation - Helicopter harness runs from cockpit controls to various sensors and avionics controls
Medical - Medical-harness runs from analyzer central unit to sensors that gather data

2. DISCRETE - A cable made up of one or more lengths of hookup wire terminated with a connector or quick-disconnect terminals on one or more ends.

Application
Medical - Used in disposable electronics. Example: probes for examining nasal passage.

3. RF CABLE ASSEMBLY - An assembly made up of coaxial cable. It could be flexible or semi-rigid. Terminated with RF connectors of either gender in standard sizes like BNC, F-SERIES, SMA, SMB, SMC, TNC or N-series on one or both ends.

Applications
Telecommunication - Example: Used as cell tower main cables or jumper cables. Runs from bottom of cell tower to top where it hooks into a shorter jumper cable to cell aerial.

4. OVER MOLDED - This cable is a round-jacketed multi-conductor type, with one or more connectors encapsulated with a sealing compound to keep fluids or foreign material from entering the connector at the cable-entry ends. Several types of molding compounds are available, depending upon the operating environment and other variables.

Applications
Computer - Runs from CPU to printer or standard AC cords.
Medical - Connecting Life-Support, diagnostic equipment
Industrial - CNC machining centers and other types of equipment which would be subject to cutting fluids and oils.

5. FLAT RIBBON - A multi-conductor flat ribbon cable usually terminated with an IDC type connector at one or more ends.

Computers - From drives to power supplies or PC board to PC board connections

6. FLAT FLEX - An extremely flexible, almost membrane-thin flat film circuitry cable. Usually terminated with FFC's (Flat Flex Connectors) or terminal pins at one or both ends.

Application
LCD Displays - Can be used to connect liquid crystal displays to circuit boards in hand held or battery-operated equipment. PDA's, for example
